Jurassic Park series 1 Robert Muldoon

The Jurassic Park series 1 Robert Muldoon toy was released in 1993. It was designed based on early sketches for the character, long before the Bob Peck casting was done. This explains why the face and body sculpt is way off compared to the movie version. (This was kinda corrected in the series 2 toy line) Robert Muldoon comes with a grenade launcher complete with 2 different grenades. These can be stored in the backpack that’s included. It’s a bit tricky to remove the packback again. The little pins that hold the strap easily break after a while. The hatchling…

The Lost World: Jurassic Park – Parasaurolophus

The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Parasaurolophus

The Parasaurolophus is an electronic dinosaur from the The Lost World: Jurassic Park toy line. Sadly, in my opinion, the dinosaur has just one flaw. One of its legs sticks weirdly out to the back (not shown on the pictures) to make it look like its running. However this makes it very difficult to make it stand on its own. By pushing the button on the back, the dinosaur will make its iconic trumpet sound and it kicks the weird standing leg forward. By playing a little bit with this, you can make the Parasaurolophus stand on its own. Despite…

Box artwork: Bush Devil Tracker

Posted on Leave a comment

If there was something that Kenner REALLY owned back in the 80’s and early 90’s, it must have been their amazing box artwork. I vividly remember staring at these boxes in the toy store and see those scenes come to live in my mind. Copyright Kenner / Hasbro The Bush Devil Tracker jeep features one of those really neat designs. It shows the Electronic Velociraptor from series 1 being chased by the Jeep Wrangler from the movie (although the brand is not mentioned on the box or toy) with Alan Grant behind the driving wheel, Tim Murphy handling the Dinosaur Snare and Robert Muldoon…

Chaos Effect - Compstegnathus

Compstegnathus is part of the Chaos Effect line which was released in 1998 after the succes of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It featured hybrid dinosaurs that were created by mixing the DNA of different species (Jurassic World anyone?). The design of most new sculpts look very sleek, smooth and very colourful. It’s rumoured there was supposed to be a Chaos Effect animated television series, which might explain the cartoon-like look of this toy line. Some of the dinosaurs in this toy line are repaints, but Compstegnathus is one of those new sculpts. According to the package, it’s a hybrid of Compsognathus, Stegosaurus and…

Vintage Jurassic Park toy ad from 1993

Posted on 5 Comments

This Jurassic Park toy ad appeared in a brochure for a supermarket chain called GB (now part of the Carrefour group). It was released right before the holiday shopping in 1993. Anyway, I still remember flipping through that brochure and just being stunned by that photo. For today’s standards it looks *meh*, but when I was a kid I just could see myself building the same backdrop, put some houseplants and throw some dirt on the floor to get the same set up (but I never did). I loved this particular page so much that I had ripped it out…

Dino-Tracker Adventure Set

The Dino Tracker Adventure Set was released in 1997 as a Walmart exclusive in the United States. It’s part of the The Lost World – Jurassic Park line and it features the relatively unknown creatures Estemmenosuchus (yes, that is a spelling error on the package) and Scutosaurus. Both were actually planned to be released in 1994 as part of the Jurassic Park series II toy line, but sadly this never happened. Photos of them were teased on the back of the other series II toys but they never made it out of the Kenner factory until 1997. Copyright Kenner/Hasbro/Universal Pictures/Amblin…

Jurassic Park Command Compound

The Command Compound was THE toy I wanted as a kid.  I wanted it so bad, I dreamed about and kept staring at the HUGE box when I was at the local toy store. I begged for months to get it from my parents but to no prevail. When Christmas came around the corner, there was a large big box under the Christas Tree and I was convinced my parents finally got me my beloved Command Center. However when I unwrapped it, disappointed struck. No Command Center but a Jurassic Park desk chair. A desk chair… I had to fight…
