It was one year ago that Mattel revealed its Jurassic World line for the first time at the Toy Fair, which takes place annually in New York City.
This year Mattel returned with their Jurassic World toys and had a few new things to show.
The Dino Rivals line introduced the repainting of Stegosaurus and Suchomimus, the first large dinosaurs that were reissues with a new layer of paint. It looks like there will be more repaints coming later this year, including one of the recently released Concavenator and the Baryonyx. There’s also a repainted Tricetatops that looks quite similar to that of Kenner’s unreleased Trike from 1997.
The show stealer at the Mattel’s Toy Fair booth is without a doubt the Destroy ‘n Devour Indominus Rex. She was a highly anticipated dinosaur and boy did Mattel deliver. She’s packed with lots of great action features and sound effect, putting Hasbro’s version to shame.
The biggest Jurassic surprise (literally) is the reveal of the Super Colossal Velociraptor “Blue”. She’s similar to the Colossal T-Rex and has a mouth that can manually open er close.
Other toys from Mattel are the Primal Pal Blue toy and a series of small, cute looking dinosaurs called Snap Squad.
The Legacy Brachiosaurus and Battle Damage Plesiosaurus that Mattel teased last week were not on display at the Toy Fair because they are store-specific exclusives.
But it doesn’t end here! LEGO (out of the “Blue”), revealed four new sets and a short animated series called Legend of Isla Nublar. What a time to be a Jurassic fan!
