Hasbro doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to releasing toys based on female leads from various movie franchises (they seem to fix this though with the new wave of Star Wars toy line). Jurassic Park is no exception. They even gender swapped the dinosaurs on the Jurassic World packages.
In Hasbro’s defence, there is obviously a lack of female leads in the movies as well, but this doesn’t excuse the fact there was never a Lex, Zara or Claire action figure. Even when you look at all the repainted figures for the Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs line, none of the female figurines got a repaint. Only Ellie Sattler got a repaint (and a new sculpted head) for the Jurassic Park series II line.
The Kenner line for The Lost World did have 2 female figures (a JP record!), but Sarah Harding got a limited release in the series II line.
Ian’s daughter Kelly Malcolm was included in the Mobile Command Centre trailer playset, which makes this set even cooler, but makes it hard to get your hands on the figure.
And then finally there’s Amanda Kirby from the Jurassic Park III toy line.
I’m curious how Mattel will fare when they start producing their Jurassic Park toys… Check this post again in a few years time…
